My Birthday Bash - the big Three-Zero! A fundraising appeal, please read!

My band, F.I.G.M.O, will be headlining a show in support of both
Young Indian Futures and The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
We are declaring War... On stress, suffering and inequality!

Just a short post this time guys, I humbly present a little poem for you all in anticipation of a charity fundraising event that I'm putting on to mark the occasion, Sept 6th, Ducie Bridge, Manchester.
I debated whether to put this up online or not, but I thought for readers all over the world it would give us all an excellent opportunity to practice a bit of "Dana" (or empathetic generosity), and hope that perhaps some of the people out there that read this will consider making a donation through the "Just Giving" links at the bottom. I figured it would be more skillful to give people a choice of two incredibly worthy causes to support, so please consider making a donation, it would be the best present I could ask for! With that in mind, I humbly offer you this little rhyme after a few weeks reflection....

Inspired by moments from others now past,
Weaving a Tapestry though I know it won't last.
Drawing the threads from the living and the dead
With a sense of
Direction
Which, under closer inspection
Is not all that different to this buck I've been passed.

I perceive it to be quite fitting to state
The reason we're here,
And how we relate

Because whatever the name or the face is,
The gender or race is,
The space, time, or the places we find ourselves in
Both without and within,

We're exposed to this lie that
Descends from on high,
To go out and buy,
To consume til you die...

...That selfhood and "I" is enough to supply
The reason and "how" and the "why" of it all.

Thus we all fall.

But don't take it from me, it's what Phil Larkin said:
A poet, a scholar, a genius and dead.
"Being fearful or brave
Saves no-one from the grave."
But he also taught me the value of "Days"and
That's there's more to this life than the Purplest of Haze!

So this is not about me,
Or how old I might be,
Or looking great for 30,
Or false modesty...

This is not affirmation,
Or ideas above stations
Or human morality
Or my own increasingly looming
Sense of mortality...

No.

This is bigger than one night
It about stepping up to the plate, guys,
And doing what's right.

So dig deep my friends
Cus who knows when it ends?
But poetry, music and kindness transcends
Us All.

Forever.

In Peace - Jai Bhim!

Please feel free to consider making a donation or read up on these two fantastic groups and the life-changing work they do! Lets make some positive ripples on this mill pond, you never know where they might take you...
